The thermosyphon circuit that maintains group head temperature relies on passive water circulation from the boiler: any restriction in this circuit — from scale accumulation or a partially blocked fitting — reduces group head temperature stability and affects extraction consistency.
Group head gasket wear produces a poor portafilter seal and water bypass during extraction. Shower screen deposits from coffee oils and fine grounds affect water distribution. Boiler and Heat Exchanger Faults
Faema commercial machines typically use a heat exchanger boiler design in which a single boiler provides both steam pressure and, through a heat exchanger tube passing through the boiler, brew water at the correct temperature. Scale accumulation in the heat exchanger tube is a specific concern in this design: scale restricts the heat exchanger bore progressively, reducing brew water flow and affecting temperature. Boiler element failure causes complete loss of heating. Pressure stat faults affect steam boiler pressure.
Pump and Pressure Regulation
Commercial Faema machines use rotary pump systems that require periodic inspection to confirm pressure output within specification. Pressure adjustment and pump wear both affect the pressure delivered to the group heads.
